1.Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What’s a brief of your background?

CB

ARTIST ..CHOR BOOGIE… originally from San Diego now currently residing in San Francisco… Medium ..Spray paint… I’ve been involved with the arts since the age of 5 and been using spray paint since the age of 13.. so nearly two decades of painting with spray paint… when it comes to accomplishments they are there and will always come simply because people love what I do .. so just to name a few … It all started at the age of 17 when I received my first gig from motivational speaker Tony Robbins painting a 3 story ropes climbing course for his organization.. Over time things just grew from painting portraits for famous people such as ODB of Wu Tang, to Hugh Hefner, to JayZ, and so on To Painting for the Olympics in China, showcasing work Internationally in places like Brazil ,Dubai,Australia,Canada,Mexico,Europe, let alone all over the U.S.To raising sales and price ranges of my personal art work. But that just comes with the game and adds lavish to the success of things, which is amazing, and I’m grateful for. To me HONESTLY I have only just begun.

2.How would you describe the general process you go through to design and execute each of your pieces?

CB

When I paint to put it into words.. there is an instant connection with me and the surface I am working on. and I just go for it I have all my colors laid out before me and really analyze the surface … “how do I want to beautify this surface” I ask my self and it just flows from there depending on the moments in time and how I’m feeling … Sometimes I use references for realism purposes, but overall originality is the key to survival. This is what I believe some people are in need of on a constant basis ..something new… some people are complacent so let them be.. they will awaken when they  need to.. but to round it all off.. My artwork is an Abstract Expressionism of a street romantic Voodoo with emotional landscapes of a melodic symphony through color therapy so 50%mind+50%heart=100%body+100%soul=200%spirit then add an infinite universe you have a CHORBOOGIE CREATION..

3.Why use spray paint, as opposed to any other type of materials you could use to create your art? Do you feel that using spray paint gives your artwork more of an edge while still maintaining a classic beauty, than say using regular paint and brushes?

CB

I personally have nothing against other medias.. pretty much everything artistically created with a paintbrush from a historical standpoint to contemporary standpoints have been created with this medium for thousands of years.. which is amazing with in it self ..but this brings me back to the fact of originality and the conceptual fact of art.. ART is FREE.. so let it is FREE so know matter what you create with as long as it’s from the heart then it should not matter what it was created with but by the LOVE that was put into it ..but I simply chose the medium because it was NEW and when I seen the art work that was done with it that added more fuel to my fire of inspiration.. so I pursued it.

QLX

4.What contribution would you like your artwork to bring to the fashion industry? How can you see yourself collaborating with designers or other industry outlets?

CB

COLLABORATING with some Hi end Fashion designers has been a goal of mine for some time.. Simply because its an art form I can respect and I can  see Models walking down the cat walk with my ART work on them for some reason call it an Epiphany but that’s just what I see just patiently waiting for a destined moment where this collaboration will take place and I’m sure it would be an amazing show ..Imagine ..I would paint the entire back drop set for the photo shoots and the  stage sets…the garments would be ravishing with colors and design work really cant reveal too much but we can call the line COLOUR THERAPY. or ROMANTIC VOODOO. It’s just something I see happening in the near future for sure.. just depends on WHOS BRAVE ENOUGH TO PERSUE THIS ..

QLX

5.What differences and similarities do you identify between fashion and spray paint art?

CB

Me personally I don’t see a difference with the artistic approach of both mediums FASHION nor SPRAY PAINT ..I believe both worlds are FREE TO BE. when it comes to the creative process… they both lust to stand out be noticed but with dignity and composure.. and thrive for that original concept that’s either going to make you laugh…cry… hate…love… feel..

QLX

6.Who are some of your favorite and most admired artists? Why?

CB

THERE are many artists I admire … and love… to many to name … but the reason why I admire them .. for the reason at hand is that there art work made me feel something ..some of these artists are dead some are alive and I know them personally .. but overall there work was appealing to me more than the average.. they stand out amongst the rest..

QLX

7.If you weren’t an artist, what career path might you have chosen?

CB

I DON’T KNOW ..this is the only thing I really know how to do.. maybe a professor of some sort .. I know it would be in the creative realm.. like music … have an ear for that … some sort of DJ..simply because music plays a major role in my artwork.. who knows a circus monkey porn star or some shit like that..lol..

QLX

8.You have described your work as “therapeutic flow” and that it “encourages you to wake up”, is this a direct link between your art and your recovery from a past addiction? Are the two intertwined?

CB

THEY ARE IN SIMPLE RELATION ..through my trials and tribulations of learning lessons ..from which ill be doing until the day I die… the therapeutic flow had an effect once I established a foundation for my self… first .. then the artistic measures of healing myself through art fell into place ..all in due time ..see the timing definitely plays its roll in my life and I believe everything happens for a Divine reason and purpose. hence the fact I Incorporated a meaning an understanding behind my work that helped establish me as a human being and it also has relating ties to its audience simply because everybody wakes up and sees color everybody lives with color so what better to put an understanding behind my work with what we see the most .. as it gets deeper the colors mean nothing unless you acknowledge them ..that’s why they are not apparent in are life and we don’t reap the benefits from them simply because we don’t believe in them .. but as long as we as people believe in something that’s all that matters ..so this is why it’s all in relation to my past and what it is now and how I was blessed with a talent to help me overcome obstacles in my path..

QLX

9.Your art has been produced and displayed all over the world, from the Beijing Olympics to Australia and China. Do you find that different cultures perceive and accept your art differently than one another or has your art acted more as universal language tying them all to a joint understanding.

CB

ALL the places I’ve been to showing my work or exposing my work ..definitely caused some sort of reaction or feeling towards it. some go off the negative connotation the spray can holds behind it some embrace as art work.. but once they really come up and curiously ask there whole perspective changes once I expose the meaning and understanding behind my work .. then they have a whole different perception about it .. some people just get it .. right off the bat because they are not so analytical and do not need an explanation to really explain how they feel.. or an explanation on something beautiful.. but my positive reactions around the world out way the negative ones..

QLX

10.If your art could leave one impression on the world and those that have been able to witness and experience it, what would your hope for it be?

CB

ORIGINALITY .. to really discover you original self and share it with the world..
